Reduce costs with better control

Whether it's from a financial, legislative or Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) perspective, the need to manage energy has never been greater for businesses.

Yet unless you know what your energy consumption actually is at any given moment, how can you be expected to keep it under tight control? Smart metering via Utility Assist can help give you that control.

Isn’t every meter going to be changed to a smart meter?

Yes, there are plans to change domestic electricity and gas metering. A national roll-out of smart meters across Britain is being planned and that will involve replacing 46 million meters in all 25 million homes across the country by 2020. However, business supplies are not getting the same priority. Although, the more astute, medium and larger businesses are already benefiting from having smart meters installed.  The Government has only currently mandated that large businesses should have smart meters within five years and it is still currently considering policy on smart meters for smaller businesses.

Why should I change now?

Smart meters will provide you with accurate information on the energy you use in your business. You will be able to compare the amount of electricity and gas you use today against what you used the day before, the week before, the month before and even the year before.

According to research by the Carbon Trust, these meters can save up to 5% of your energy costs or even more.

It will also herald the end of inaccessible meters. Dependent on the tariff selected, the information on your energy use could be accessible to you through a hand-held display device, via the internet or even through a mobile phone. Access to the information will be two-way, with suppliers being able to read meters exactly, and bill precisely what you use, rather than working on meter readings or estimates. This will be the nail in the coffin of the dreaded estimated bill.

Your Bill - Example (PDF/92KB)

All invoices are based on actual meter readings, eliminating estimated bills, overcharging or the requirement to accrue. Time spent on accounting, administrative costs and analysing bills is greatly reduced. For too long energy suppliers have maintained poor billing standards creating a massive grey area for you, their customer. It's a regular occurrence whereby customers are not clear on their energy charges and usage, which can result in overcharging and unexpected costs.

Remote meter readings

Your meter will be remotely monitored 7 days a week. This eliminates the requirement for someone to physically visit your premises.

It's all online

With some suppliers you can view your usage and costs online, this can help to reduce your energy consumption and reduce your monthly bill.

Help save the environment

Smart Metering can help you change your usage patterns, saving energy and therefore helping reduce carbon emissions.
